Just musing.

Been thinking. About Heroes, Janice namely. To me, this story still feels unfinished, and going by what I see from most people, this feeling is not shared by many. Apparantly, everyone generally considers ths chapter closed and that Matt has moved on.

But that’s not how it is, is it? Tell me if I misinterprete. The nightmare that Maury trapped Matt in was about Janice and the baby, so I guess he isn’t over the whole matter yet? I would be content with the explanation that this scene was only added in to finish that story, and explain why Matt broke up with her, but… that’s not what it does. In an earlier conversation with Nathan, Matt sumsit all up: Janice was pregnant with someone else’s baby and he can’t live with that. The nightmare actually casts doubt on this version, because dream!Janice tells Matt that she told him the baby isn’t his, but he can thoughts, and… what does that mean? Before this, everything was clear, but now: Did he read her thoughts and realize she was lying about him not being the father? Did he refuse to read her thoughts, taking her word for it (out of spite)? Why would he do that? Bzuh!

I hope that gets cleared up in some way. It has to come up again, why else make that dream sequence?

I never mentioned it, I think, but in his Dream Analysis, Freud cites a certain Maury a lot. That book is also surprisingly readable, with some parts, of course, where you have to think “Oh, shut up, you!” but for Freud, it’s kind of fun to read wihout too much brain-breakage. This dream analysis of Freud’s is very… language-based, it seems. I need to think more about my own experience with dreaming.

1. I have never died in my dreams.

2. I have never dreamt of falling.

3. I do fly a lot, relatively speaking.

M3 – Private Detectives – A cut scene

May 12, 2008 · 3 Comments

Note: I possibly won’t be online tomorrow.

Often, Mohinder is alone at the apartent/office, while Molly is at school or playing with her friends, and Matt is out to investigate stuff. That’s why he is usually the first that the clients interact with.

This is recurring character Gary. Gary Gray.

“Gary” isn’t his real name. Mohinder found that out pretty fast. He’s a detective, duh? But he humours the guy, even though he knows his real name is Gabriel. I mean… Gabriel is a dumb name anyway. For the longest time, Mohinder didn’t know wth to think about this strange man. He… keeps coming to the agency.

Mohinder is starting to get fed up by what he is half-convinced is nothing but stalking. Gary has an ability, too, he can see how things work and figure stuff out. This comes in handy in one dramatic episode, where Mohinder, Matt, Molly and Gary (plus other people who don’t matter) are trapped in a closed room with a bomb, and it’s Gary who can disarm it and save everyone’s life. Unortunately, he gets arresed by the police because it’s considered strange he would know how that bomb works. It’s up to M3 to prove his innocence – with Mohinder torn between gratefulness and contempt.

After this episode, Gary seems to realize his attitude is kind of sucky, and leaves town for the time being, to do some soul-searching and then a spectacular return in a later season.

Detectives! Detectives!!

May 11, 2008 · 2 Comments

I have been reading too much Detective Conan, and I’ve reached the point where I’m like “lulz, complicated murder is complicated”. Also “OMG a get-together at a remote location, I wonder which one of you will die first, and who is the killer, and that’s sometimes even the same person”.

Naturally, I want a Heroes detectives story now.

This is what it could be titled.

And this is what the credits could be like:

He’s the kind of guy who acts before thinking. He doesn’t spend a lot of time contemplating, but usually draws the simplest conclusion – often, he happens to be right, because the average person is as simple-minded as he is.

He’s a genuinely nice guy, but often comes across as a little rough.

Oh, yeah, and that.

Matt’s ability to hear people’s thoughts often comes in handy, even though he has not quite mastered it yet. At other times, this ability is an endless source of comic relief.

He is the thinker, the guy who spends endless hours working away on his laptop, researching one project or another, making connections where his partner Matt only sees question marks.

He is a little naive in the beginning of the series, but is now also known to fire a gun or hit people on the head when it’s absolutely necessary.

He rents the apartment, and it is a running gag in the series to have him threaten to throw Matt out if he doesn’t figure out a case within the day.

Like only children in detective manga usually do, Molly sees dead bodies and visits crime scenes as if it’s a piece of cake. The grown-ups put up a symbolic resistence against the little girl’s involvement in their invesigations, but are really all to happy to have her with them: Not only is Molly SMRT, smrter than Matt at the very least – she can also locate anybody in the world if she knows their name and appearance.

And that’s useful.

Together, they fight crime.

And now I’ll plot a crime for them to solve. :(

Season 3: The way the fans want it

May 9, 2008 · 3 Comments

Odessa, Texas. Nathan is bleeding on the floor.

Peter: Oh my god! Call an ambulance! Where is the police!
Matt: … they aren’t coming. Sorry.
Peter: But… Nathan…! He needs help!
Matt: See, the problems is, they would need actors to play doctors and policemen, right? And the fans don’t like it when they cast actors. In roles. They feel it would take away from our screentime.
Nathan: *dies*
Peter: Nooooo!

New York

Bob: *sighs*
Elle: What’s the matter?
Bob: I requested for more Company employees, but the producers told me the fans wouldn’t let them cast any. It loks like the two of us will have even more work this season.
Elle: Oh, meh.
Bob: …
Elle: Aren’t you at least going to comment on how awesome I am to have kicked Sylar’s ass?
Bob: Sorry, not enough screentime for that. Going back to the Petrelli boys any second n–

Odessa, Texas. Morgue.

Peter: They will PAY. *sobs*

The Dark Knight

May 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I really liked the new trailer! It had a lot of Harvey Dent, and there was also a glimpse of Eric Roberts, who plays Sal Maroni. I’m shaky with my Batman lore, but apparently, in most comics, it’s Sal who is responsibe for scarring Harvey Dent and turning him into Two-Face. That’s cool, it means he might get to do something meaningful… and very evil.

(One of these comics, which is also cited as one of the major influences for the movie, was written by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. It’s really funny how Heroes people are everywhere. It makes me feel more in-the-know than I really am, of course.)

Ehhhhhh, I slept really badly last night and today was a long day. Tomorrow will be another! Still have to learn Romanian plural forms, which my friend informed me this afternoon “I don’t get them either!”Sounds wonderful. But last week, I had the brilliant idea that if I make up Heroes macros in my head using the words I learned, I could remember it better. Basically my own personal textbook.
