I reject reality and substitute my own!

Because I can’t let go of Heroes yet. Oh, it’s probably my New Year’s resolution to kick that unhealthy habit, but it’d be best if Heroes just went away and I could do the pick-and-choose that I am sadly used to, as a Highlander fan. ;) Where the “canon” is so inconsistent you cannot respect it all at once, so the movies and the series and whatever they made are merely suggestions, pieces of a puzzle that you take to build your own version in your head.

The problem with having the thing you love in your head means it gets harder for you to talk with other fans. Somehow, you have to negotate a common… fanon? And this might be how AU fanfiction is born. Only not, because they get written for shows that are still good and make sense.

Ah, Heroes. I have a lot of respect for the characters and the storylines, the themes and directions in Season 1 and 2. This is why I can’t respect Season 3. I want to use this opportunity to ramble about how things might have or could have or should have developed after Season 2, taking into account – not what the writers want want WANT for a storyline, but how the characters might actually react.

Just musing.

Been thinking. About Heroes, Janice namely. To me, this story still feels unfinished, and going by what I see from most people, this feeling is not shared by many. Apparantly, everyone generally considers ths chapter closed and that Matt has moved on.

But that’s not how it is, is it? Tell me if I misinterprete. The nightmare that Maury trapped Matt in was about Janice and the baby, so I guess he isn’t over the whole matter yet? I would be content with the explanation that this scene was only added in to finish that story, and explain why Matt broke up with her, but… that’s not what it does. In an earlier conversation with Nathan, Matt sumsit all up: Janice was pregnant with someone else’s baby and he can’t live with that. The nightmare actually casts doubt on this version, because dream!Janice tells Matt that she told him the baby isn’t his, but he can thoughts, and… what does that mean? Before this, everything was clear, but now: Did he read her thoughts and realize she was lying about him not being the father? Did he refuse to read her thoughts, taking her word for it (out of spite)? Why would he do that? Bzuh!

I hope that gets cleared up in some way. It has to come up again, why else make that dream sequence?

I never mentioned it, I think, but in his Dream Analysis, Freud cites a certain Maury a lot. That book is also surprisingly readable, with some parts, of course, where you have to think “Oh, shut up, you!” but for Freud, it’s kind of fun to read wihout too much brain-breakage. This dream analysis of Freud’s is very… language-based, it seems. I need to think more about my own experience with dreaming.

1. I have never died in my dreams.

2. I have never dreamt of falling.

3. I do fly a lot, relatively speaking.
