This was not a particularly good movie, but I had fun. It did not have anything to do with the alien mythology, but was essentially a stand-alone episode about a creepy and, when you try to sum it up in simple words, quite loltastic occurence.
Without any spoilers at all, what I could have done without was the emo soul-searching “I want to believe” stuff, which resulted in Scully and Mulder and some others have pointless, strange arguments about whether belief or scepticism is the right course. It was annoying because I could not really follow. Why did one development suddenly convince everyone that the guy must be lying? Why did Mulder and Scully change their minds all the time? The way how everyone acted towards the pedophilic ex-priest was also weird. I get it, the guy is creepy, but Scully, you’ve dealt with far creepier people much more comfortably, and let me assure you, you are most definitely not his type, duh. It did not really convince me. It was odd and jarring. Ignore this stuff and you have fun crack.
Also: when you have a POOL sign, don’t film it so it reads POO. But maybe the movie has a really subte. under-played sense of humour.
Spoilers follow.
